Burdock Root: Keeping our lymph moving is critical to a healthy immune and gut/digestive system and burdock is traditionally used to facilitate lymph. Just as the sap in the trees begins to move upward in the spring it is critical to facilitate the circulation of the lymphatic in the gut, head and limbs in the spring as well. I like any herb that you can put in soup and burdock is actually a delicious root vegetable. This lymphatic support property is part of the reason that it  is also used in traditional herbal medicine for skin health. For deeper dive into burdock, follow this link

Licorice Root: In addition to its stomach soothing properties, licorice is used in small amounts traditionally to harmonize the actions of the other ingredients so that a formula is easier to digest.  It also has a mildly sweet and bitter taste that makes herbal compounds more enjoyable. Read more about licorice here.

Dandelion: Many traditional medical systems use dandelion. Traditional Chinese medicine uses dandelion to clear the liver, kidneys, and stomach. Native American medicine utilizes dandelion to treat kidney disease, skin problems, and edema. European herbalists find dandelion relieves fever, diabetes, and diarrhea. A rich source of inulin or prebiotics, dandelion root also supports proper functioning of agni (aka our ability to digest). Take a deeper dive into learning about dandelion here.

Gokshuradi Guggulu: Classical Ayurveda uses gokshuradi guggulu to restore equilibrium to all three doshas and in particular to support the ideal functioning of the genitourinary tract. Gokshuradi Guggulu protects vata, pacifies pitta and eliminates kapha. It combines gokshura, musta, amalaki, bibhitaki, haritaki, pippali, ginger, and guggulu resin. Gokshura strengthens and tones the kidneys; guggulu, amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki support the bladder and urethra as well as both male and female reproductive organs.

Kelp: Kelp is rich in: vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. Kelp also contains Vitamin K1, Folate, Magnesium, Iodine Iron, Vitamin A, Pantothenic acid, and Calcium. It is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to promote reproductive health and circulation in the low abdomen. As a sea vegetable its gut-friendly fiber profile is different from land veggies. Check out more info about kelp here.

Manjistha: Manjistha is traditionally used in Ayurveda to clear pitta from rakta dhatu and to encourage lymphatic circulation, supports healthy skin and a clear complexion. Supports proper function of the liver and kidneys. Read more about manjistha here.

Moringa: This warming, mustardy tasting plant is native to India and traditionally used in the colder months of the year as a general tonic for health and energy levels. Besides being nutrient and antioxidant rich, limited human studies have suggested that it may contribute  to regulating cholesterol and blood sugar levels and reducing inflammation in our systems.

Nettle: A nutrient-packed powerhouse, stinging nettle leaf contains many anti-oxidants which provide a wide range of health benefits such as: arthritis relief, blood sugar regulation, respiratory support, allergy relief, and immune support. Take a deeper dive into the benefits of nettle here.

Punarnava: Literally meaning "the one that renews," punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) restores equilibrium to the water and earth elements–namely kapha dosha. Punarnava is used to support optimal functioning of the heart, liver, and kidneys. It promotes ideal weight especially when one gains weight easily. Punarnava maintains equilibrium of the fluid system which includes healthy elimination of urine and proper amount of fluid in the tissues.

Tulsi: Tulsi, also known as holy basil, is considered to have the following qualities in Ayurveda: warming, clarifying, supportive of lung health, and supports the flow of prana. Additionally, tulsi is an adaptogen, which means it helps with: stress prevention and recovery, weight regulation, mental clarity, preventing exhaustion and burnout. Learn more about tulsi here.

Turmeric: Currently lauded by modern science as the most potent herbal anti-inflammatory, Ayurveda has been using turmeric to cure skin diseases, edema, diabetes, anemia, ulcers, and mitigate kapha and pitta for several millennia. Recent clinical studies suggest that turmeric protects against Alzheimers and dementia, relieves arthritis and depression,  and reduces heart disease and cancer risk. Check out the benefits of turmeric here.

Each year our needs change like the weather. Literally. Each season, different herbs, superfoods, fruits and veggies ripen that provide the nutrients that you need to thrive. The plant foods in our four Seasonal Superfoods Blends are based on exactly this principle: your needs change with the seasonal change, and the seasons provide for your needs.

While there are a number of great Superfoods products out there we set out to curate blends that adapt to and provide the bounty of each season change with the seasons. As recently as a century ago people used to consume nearly five times the diversity of plant foods that we do in modern times and this has major implications for the foundations of our health such as our microbiome. These blends are the product of our passion to support our overall health by increasing the diversity of our plant food intake. Our blends are sourced from all organically grown, gluten free ingredients and we only buy from companies who adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) so they are third party for purity.
