Anantamula: Combined with mañjiṣṭhā and tulsi, anantamula synergizes to reduce excess pitta in the blood, support skin, and lymphatic circulation. Other traditional uses of anantamula include clearing pitta doṣha from rakta dhātu, relieving skin disorders with itching, digestive problems, diarrhea, and asthma. For a deeper dive, look here: Uses and Benefits of Anatamula

Ashwagandha (aśvagandhā): Arguably the most famous Āyurvedic herb in the West, ashwagandha’s name means “scent of a horse.” This name implies the strength and power of a horse and modern bio-research notes ashwagandha’s capacity to support adrenal health by helping the body to regulate cortisol levels and by extension stress, sleep, concentration, mood and energy levels. Ashwagandha is classified as an adaptogen, a substance that helps the body cope with stress. To learn more about ashwagandha, follow this link: Proven Health Benefits of Ashwagandha

Astragalus: Possibly the best immune-supporting herb in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Pharmacopeia and, after 25 years of using astragalus clinically, I can say from experience that astragalus is especially effective in preventing and treating viral infections. It is also helpful in building blood, supporting better heart & kidney function and deficiency patterns in digestion. I used it extensively with my children during cold and flu season and I can brag that in 22 years of parenting neither of them has ever taken antibiotics. For a deeper understanding of astragalus, read this: An Ancient Root with Health Benefits

Brahmī/Gotu Kola: According to Āyurveda this form of brahmī is a rejuvenative herb that balances pitta doṣha. Among its many benefits brahmī supports memory, cognition, healthy skin, and hair. Check out more of brahmī’s benefits by following this link: Everything you need to know about Gotu Kola

Beet Root: Packed with essential nutrients, beet root is a great source of fiber, folate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Beet roots have been associated with numerous health benefits, including improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, and increased exercise performance. Other benefits include supporting brain and skin health. It is in the blend because it makes it naturally sweet without adding too much sugar. Check out this link, Everything to know about the health benefits of Beets, for more information on beet root.

Bentonite Clay: People have been using calcium bentonite clay for centuries as a way to detoxify the body, improve digestion and skin tone, and enhance the mineral nourishment in food. Read more about bentonite clay by following this link.

Burdock Root: Keeping our lymph moving is critical to healthy immune and digestive systems and burdock is traditionally used to facilitate lymph mobility. I like any herb that I can put in soup and burdock is a delicious root vegetable that lends well to autumnal soups. Burdock root is also used in traditional herbal medicine for skin health.  For a deeper understanding of burdock root, check out this linked article:  What is Burdock Root?

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is high in antioxidants, has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and is a pitta-friendly warming spice. Cinnamon is used traditionally for improving immunity as well as heart and lung health. Modern research suggests that it may reduce blood pressure and blood sugar. Learn more by following this link: 10 Proven Benefits of Cinnamon

Kelp: Rich in vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, Kelp contains K1, folate, magnesium, iodine, iron, vitamin A, pantothenic acid, and calcium. Kelp is used in TCM to promote reproductive health and circulation in the lower abdomen. As a sea vegetable its gut-friendly fiber profile adds diversity to a predominantly land veggie diet. For a deeper understanding of kelp, check out this link: A Health Booster from the Sea

Licorice Root: In addition to its stomach soothing properties, licorice is used in small amounts traditionally to harmonize the actions of the other ingredients so that a formula is easier to digest.  It also has a mildly sweet and bitter taste that makes herbal compounds more enjoyable. Read more about licorice here.

Manjistha (mañjiṣṭhā): Traditionally used in Āyurveda to clear pitta doṣha from rakta dhātu and to encourage lymphatic circulation, mañjiṣṭhā supports healthy skin and the proper function of the liver and kidneys. Check out this linked article Can you use herbs to treat Acne? for more information on mañjiṣṭhā.

Schizandra Berry: Schisandra chinensis (five flavor fruit) is a fruit-bearing vine. Its purple-red berries are described as having five tastes: sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, and sour. In TCM, schizandra berry is used to prevent colds and flus and fortify a weakened immune system. Currently schizandra berry is very popular in herbal anxiety and sleep formulations which reflects its traditional property of “calming spirit.” Learn more by clicking in this Healthline article: Schisandra

Spirulina: This tiny algae is packed with nutrients, including protein, vitamins B1, B2, and B3, copper, iron, and magnesium. For a deeper understanding of spirulina, read this linked article on

Tulsi: Also known as Holy Basil, tulsi is considered to have the following qualities in Āyurveda: warming, clarifying, supporting lung health and the flow of prana. Additionally, tulsi is an adaptogen, which means it helps with stress prevention and recovery, weight regulation, mental clarity, preventing exhaustion and burnout. Each year our needs change like the weather. Literally. Each season, different herbs, superfoods, fruits and veggies ripen that provide the nutrients that you need to thrive. The plant foods in our four Seasonal Superfoods Blends are based on exactly this principle: your needs change with the seasonal change, and the seasons provide for your needs.

While there are a number of great Superfoods products out there, we set out to curate blends that adapt to and provide the bounty of each season and change with the seasons. As recently as a century ago, people used to consume nearly five times the diversity of plant foods that we do in modern times and this has major implications for the foundations of our health such as our microbiome. These blends are the product of our passion to support our overall health by increasing the diversity of our plant food intake. Our blends are sourced from all organically grown, gluten-free ingredients and we only buy from companies who adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) so they are third party certified for purity.
